NEW - Healthy Kitsap event is October 2
The Kitsap County Department of Human Services, in partnership with City of Bremerton, The Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs, The Salvation Army, Kitsap Mental Health Services, Meals on Wheels Kitsap, and the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner, is hosting a Healthy Kitsap event Thursday, October 2, 2014.

NEW - County budget receives national recognition for the 10th consecutive year
For the 10th consecutive year, Kitsap County was presented with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting from the only national awards program.

NEW - Norwegian Point Park Improvements
The Hansville Greenway Association recently completed a new gazebo at Norwegian Point Park. Long-time Hansville community members Sid & Jeanne Knutson donated most of the funds for the project to honor Hansville Greenway volunteers.

Creosote removal to start soon in Kitsap County
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources will launch a major clean-up next week of creosote-saturated pilings and debris along the Puget Sound shores of Kitsap County, the agency announced Tuesday.

Septic Sense workshops coming in October
Kitsap County residents are invited to one of two free workshops to learn how to keep their septic systems working well and lasting longer. Changes coming to County's drop-off recycling program
Effective October 1, 2014, glass will be collected separate from mixed recyclables at County operated Recycling and Garbage Facilities (RAGFs) in Hansville, Olalla, Silverdale, and the Poulsbo Recycle Center. Customers are advised to arrive at the Facilities with glass separated from their recycling loads to expedite the process and avoid excessive sorting at the Facilities.

Commissioners host series of forums for local ferry commuters
The Kitsap County Board of Commissioners will host a series of five forums in partnership with the cities of Bremerton and Bainbridge Island and Ferry Advisory Committee members. Meetings will be held in each of the local ferry communities and one in Silverdale, to explore several ferry system issues of particular interest including: communications, vessels, fares/tariffs, schedules, service standards, parking and terminals.

Veterans stand-down set for October 4
The 2014 fall “Stand Down for Veterans” is set for Saturday, October 4, 2014. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Boulevard in Bremerton.

Forest thinning begins next month in Newberry Hill Heritage Park
Newberry Hill Heritage Park in central Kitsap County will be the site of the first forest restoration thinning under the Kitsap County Forest Stewardship Program with work to begin on a 20-acre portion the first week of August and continuing through September.
