NEW - Shooting facility operational permit effective Monday
Larry Keeton, Director, Kitsap County Department of Community Development announced Ordinance 515-2014, passed by the Board of Commissioners on September 22, 2104, becomes effective on Monday, December 22, 2014.

NEW - Disposal fees at Olympic View Transfer Station increase January 1, 2015
Beginning January 1, 2015, new garbage disposal fees will be charged at Kitsap County's Olympic View Transfer Station (OVTS). These new fees reflect the actual costs of providing these services, based on a study completed by the County's Solid Waste Division.

NEW - Sign up for inclement weather electronic notifications
Kitsap County is encouraging residents to sign up for electronic notifications for inclement weather. "Our inclement weather page is updated frequently during storms," according to Doug Bear, Public Communications Manager. "Subscribing to this topic in our notification system provides the latest information and links to resources residents can use during inclement weather and emergency events," Bear added.

December Sustainable Cinema canceled
"Food Stamped," scheduled for tonight as part of the Sustainable Cinema series, is canceled. The furnace at the theatre is out of service. Food Stamped will be shown at January’s Sustainable Cinema.

Lake Management District for Long Lake fails
Today, property owners rejected a proposal to fund lake management activities through a Long Lake management district. The proposal failed to reach the simple majority of votes to approve: 20,862 votes in support to 22,422 against (48.2 percent to 51.8 percent).

Holiday changes to Solid and Household Hazardous Waste facilities and services
The holidays will cause some changes to garbage pick-up schedules, recycling and garbage facilities, and household hazardous waste drop-off collection.

Treecycling starts December 26
Give your tree a new life by recycling it. Trees are chipped into mulch or compost, which can be returned to the earth as a soil amendment. The countywide treecycling program begins December 26 and runs through January 15. Follow the link below for more information.

County to permanently close portions of Silverdale Community Center due to water damage
During late-November rain storms, the community center, owned and managed by the Kitsap County Department of Parks and Recreation, sustained substantial damage to multiple areas directly impacting public access and use of the building. County staff and Commissioners concluded portions of the building must be closed by the end of December

900 Acres of Trails and Habitat Permanently Protected
Today, North Kitsap Heritage Park has nearly doubled in size thanks to a 366-acre purchase by Kitsap County. Following on the heels of the county’s February purchase of 535 acres and 1.5 miles of forested shoreline on Port Gamble Bay, the park’s expansion is another step in the Kitsap Forest and Bay Project, a community-driven initiative to conserve as much as 6,700 acres in North Kitsap Peninsula.
